There are three levels of membership within the Society: General, Laureate, and Distinguished Service.  Members are initiated through a system of Campus and
Field Chapters or through special board-conducted initiations. The latter are known as “Members-at-Large” while the first two groups are considered “Chapter Members.”  All individuals are  General Members” upon initiation.

Consistent with the honor society’s purpose of career-long and lifelong service to members, all general members who maintain active status are eligible for two higher membership levels.  These are Laureate Membership and Distinguished Service Membership.  Other Epsilon Pi Tau members may recommend persons with a record of professional accomplishments for these honors.

Epsilon Pi Tau relationships with other student groups or chapters of organizations representing professional/technical fields or disciplines is also non-competitive. It is usually mutually supportive.  The distinction should be made between an academic and professional honor society, such as Epsilon Pi Tau, and organizations that serve a particular trade, profession, or field of enterprise. The latter exist in virtually every technical field and there are too many to list here (see Links). A few examples of the technical and/or professional work areas of such groups (each having technology in its name) are agriculture, aviation, computer, information, medical, fashion, cosmetology, esthetics, manufacturing, building and construction, and visual communications.  Sudents and professionals can find value in holding memberships in such organizations in addition to their membership in Epsilon Pi Tau.

Within a framework of excellence, the guidelines for organization and governance have been flexible, responsive to change, and of service to members. The Board of Directors is ever attentive to changes in the professions, world conditions and the needs of members, and continues to be open to and responsive to new concepts.  We also strive to serve members who are unable to maintain association with a chapter.
